Electrical safety is a priority in every home. Leviton safety devices help protect people and property all while meeting or exceeding National Electric Code® (NEC®) standards. Our extensive line of SmartlockPro® Self-Test GFCI (Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter) Receptacles includes: Lever Edge Standard, Weather-Resistant, Combination GFCI/USB, Combination GFCI/Switch, Guide Light, Audible Alert, Smart GFCI, Dual Function AFCI/GFCI and Blank Face. All of our GFCI receptacles and circuit breakers are engineered to help protect people from the hazards of electric shock and electrocution by interrupting power if a ground-fault is detected. GFCI outlets are required by the NEC® for areas around the home within a close proximity to a water source, such as kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, basements, garages/carports and outdoor areas such as pools, spas, decks and patios.

Patented Reset Lockout Technology
Prevents reset if the GFCI is damaged, wired incorrectly, or otherwise unable to respond to a ground-fault.Terminals Withstand High Torque

What are Ground-Faults?
- Ground-faults occur when a current flows along an unintended path, such as through water or a person.
- Since their invention in the 1970s, GFCIs have played an important role in helping to reduce the occurrence of shocks and electrocutions.

How are Leviton GFCI Circuit Breakers Different?
- GFCI and GFPE Circuit Breakers are available in standard or smart varieties which allow you to remotely monitor, update and trip your breaker from anywhere in the world with the MyLeviton app and feature the fastest installation on the market today.
Why Choose a Leviton GFCI?
- Protection without exception. Other manufacturers may allow their GFCI devices to be reset even after protection is permanently lost – taking advantage of UL exemptions and providing users with unprotected power. Why take chances?

GFCIs (Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupters) Frequently Asked Questions
If your GFCI does not reset after installation this is often the result of reversing the LINE and LOAD wires when installing. You can diagnose this when you flip the breaker to reconnect power and the indicator light is green while the GFCI will not allow you to reset. This can easily be addressed by correcting the wiring. Take a look at the back of the device you are installing to note which side is the LINE and which side is the LOAD and attach the wires accordingly. Simply connecting the wires exactly the same as they are on the older device may cause this reversal. Leviton GFCIs protect against being reset unless they are properly wired, operating correctly, and connected to power.
The GFCI has internal parts that automatically conduct a test on regular intervals to ensure that the GFCI sensing and trip capabilities are intact. If the self-test sequence determines there is a potential loss of protection the GFCI will need to take specific actions such as tripping or providing an indication to alert end users.
The terms are interchangeable and mean the same thing. UL uses the term auto-monitoring and many of the GFCI manufacturers use the term self-test.
All the GFCIs manufactured after June 29, 2015 must include the auto-monitoring and many of the GFCI manufacturers use the term self-test.
No, as long as the outlet is not worn and you have conducted the manual test to ensure it is providing protected power. If you are doing a renovation or are looking to upgrade your older GFCIs, the self-test models do add an additional layer of protection.
Only the Leviton Audible GFCIs provide audible indication. All other wallbox mounted GFCIs provide visual indication only.
The only way to tell is to press the "test" button and then the "reset" button. If the GFCI blinks RED once it is a self-test model. If the LED turns immediately to GREEN, it is a non-self-test model.
Yes, you should manually test your GFCIs on a monthly basis.
If the Leviton self-test has conducted a self-test and everything has checked out OK the indicator light will be green. If the indicator light is either not on or red you should conduct a manual test immediately. You can always conduct a manual TEST and RESET sequence to confirm the GFCI is functioning properly.
